El Carmen Church Reconstruction
GRA Architecture + Tomás Browne
2011
Project
The project proposes to recover and extend the pre-existing church by intersecting a new nave of similar dimensions, pro-
posing a new presbytery and sacristy and freeing the interior space of the pre-existing construction by replacing its wooden
pillars with two lattices cross-linked along it. Alongside this raises a number of servers spaces are arranged next to the perim-
eters, bordering the site and creating a quiet inner courtyard connected to the church through a covered corridor that unifies
the existing and the new.
